About the Role

Oversees, supports and makes contributions to patient safety by:
a. Providing a safe environment for patients.
b. Identifying and correcting root causes of errors.
c. Implementing systems to prevent errors.
d. Subscribing to the principles of responsible reporting of adverse occurrences, near misses, and safety concerns.
e. Providing evidence-based care.
1. Ensures the optimal efficiency/effectiveness of Environmental Services operations for the entire MetroHealth System by:
a. Developing short- and long-range plans that support the mission, goals, and objectives of MHS.
b. Establishing goals, policies, procedures, and standards; advising effected employees of changes as they apply throughout the System.
c. Motivating and guiding others to work hard by building a sense of teamwork and commitment.This includes clearly communicating and reinforcing aims and goals of team, unity, cooperation, and excellence.
d. Partnering with Infection Prevention to ensure compliance with all infection control guidelines, as it relates to policy, supplies safety, and applicable federal, city, and state health regulations; The Joint Commission hospital and departmental standards and requirements.
e. Maintaining information about new technologies and programmatic expansion opportunities, assisting in the application of these within budgetary limits.
f. Participates in the development and enhancement of informational systems and operating procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
g. Undertaking financial accountability of the function; ensuring expenses are within established limitations.
h. Ensuring problems regarding equipment, communications, and support systems are resolved in a timely manner.
i. Continuously evaluating customer satisfaction through current vendors, developing improvement plans, and ensuring resolution of complaints.
j. Ensuring Ohio Department of Health (ODH) standards compliance for Hospitals, Long-Term Care facilities, and Ambulatory Surgical Centers.
k. Providing positive and constructive feedback to employees in order to reward, coach, correct, and motivate.
l. Oversees department work activities by delegating authority, assigning priority activities, and monitoring operating standards.
m. Controls the Interior Plant Program.
n. Maintaining high-level patient experience scores.
2.Ensures the optimal efficiency/effectiveness of Logistics operations for the entire MetroHealth System by:
a. Creating/maintaining goals and policies/procedures for Logistics; directing the implementation of changes as needed.
b. Oversees department work activities for Logistics employees by delegating authority, assigning priority activities, and monitoring operating standards; areas of focus include transportation, messaging services, mail room services, and dispatching.
c. Undertaking financial accountability of the function; ensuring expenses are within established limitations.
3.Ensures the optimal efficiency/effectiveness of Textile Care operations for the entire MetroHealth System by:
a. Creating/maintaining goals and policies/procedures for Textile Care; directing the implementation of changes as needed.
b. Oversees department work activities for Textile Care employees by delegating authority, assigning priority activities, and monitoring operating standards.
c. Establishing/evaluating procedures to ensure efficient laundry flow; investigating new procedures/equipment and making changes as necessary to enhance the quality/quantity of production and services.
d. Undertaking financial accountability of the function; ensuring expenses are within established limitations.
4.Oversees assigned personnel by providing orientation, guidance, assistance, and ongoing competency/developmental training. Approves and/or makes recommendations regarding employment, performance appraisals, salary changes, promotions, transfers and terminations. Evaluates workload projections and monitors work schedules to ensure effective provision of service.
5.Ensures compliance with safety, environmental hygiene, sanitation, and infection/quality control requirements by:
a. Instructing personnel on applicable local/state/federal laws, government regulations, and departmental guidelines.
b. Monitoring/reporting on environmental hygiene, sanitation procedures, and equipment practice standards and outcomes.
6.Ensures clinics and satellites meet hospital cleanliness and sanitation standards (either contracted services or MHS):
a. Ensures contracts have quality/standard compliance metrics included.
b. Interfaces with contractor to ensure cleaning policies and chemicals meet MHS standards.
c. Counsels clinic and satellite management on the expected quality of contracting services.
d. Makes periodic inspections of all clinic and satellite facilities.
e. Oversees trash collection.
f. Consults with contracted services for Items 1, 2, and 3 above.
7. Participates in the selection and discharge of contracted services in clinics and satellites as applicable. Updates the Request for Proposal (RFP) for contracted services to meet MHS quality standards, which includes evaluation of quality and safety standards compliance metrics.
8. Establishes and maintains a reporting relationship with Infection Prevention, including participating in monthly Infection Control meetings, and partnering when environmental services cleaning standards change or new products require evaluation when they relate to disinfection of patient environmental surfaces.
9. Participates in system-wide inter-disciplinary initiatives, such as program development and evaluation, promotion of patient/customer satisfaction, and miscellaneous committee assignments.
10. Maintains knowledge of developments, trends, and practices by participating in continuing education courses, professional organizations and seminars; reading current literature and maintaining professional contacts in the community; monitors/assesses the appropriateness of emerging trends/strategies, and adopting techniques as deemed appropriate.Participates in hospital required educational programs such as fire safety, chemical right to know, etc.
11. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required:
Bachelor’s degree, and 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in a large, complex operations. In lieu of degree, may consider 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience.
Thorough knowledge of environmental services, including floor care programs, trash removal, infection prevention and sanitation procedures, education and training, etc., as well as procurement and storage of chemical and supply items.  
Excellent organizational, planning, and analytical skills.  
Strong interpersonal skills.  
Customer focused.
Knowledge of infection control and prevention practices.  
Knowledge of quality improvement practices, monitoring, and reporting.  

Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business.  
5 years of Environmental Services, Textile Care, and/or Logistics management experience.  
3-5 years of Healthcare Environmental Services Management experience in a multi-campus health system.
Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP).

Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
